Treats! Magazine Issue Three | Page 7

EDITORS LETTER LE BOOK presents JAMIE WACHTEL CONNECTIONS Some amazing things have happened at TREATS! between issue two and the issue you now hold in your hands. In the fall, we went to New York City to accept the Minonline & Mr. Magazine award for Hottest Launches of 2011. Not only were we flattered and excited—it’s the first time a magazine with nudity has been honored with the award—because out of over 850 launches TREATS! was recognized, but we met a lot of talented people there who were already big fans of the magazine. During our trip to New York, we also discovered that dozens of newsstands had sold out completely and were clamoring for more issues. “Send a hundred more,” most of them quipped. NEW YORK WED 6TH/THUR 7TH JUNE 2012 From 11:30AM to 8:30PM — 82 Mercer Street, SOHO, NY Shortly after we returned, we caught an item on Style.com that made the award a bit sweeter: The amazing photographers, Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin had plucked issue two cover girl, LouLou, who was shot by David Bellemere, to be their new muse. “We saw LouLou on the cover of TREATS! magazine and flew her over from Paris to New York to meet us,” the duo, who photographed her for the upcoming Sports Issue of V Magazine, told Style.com. “Her face resembles a young Penélope Cruz and her body is like that of Kate Moss. Our work is so much about the girl in the clothes and she provides us with so many new inspirations.” Then the famed luxury brand, Bulgari, chose her for their next big campaign. Great stuff—but what makes it even more special is that Lou Lou’s shoot for TREATS! was her first shoot...ever! Yes, David Bellemere has helped launch the next supermodel it looks like. Congratulations to both David & LouLou. And it appears that another muse has been birthed in issue three. Ford model, Emily Ratajkowski, landed her first TREATS! (or any other magazine) cover—and even before the magazine officially hit newsstands photographers around the world are clamoring to shoot her. TREATS! predicts very big things for Emily. “What people don’t know is that I have been in the first two issues of TREATS!,” she says. “I was virtually unrecognizable because I was playing characters, wearing wigs etc.” Well, Emily you won’t have that problem anymore. This issue has welcomed some brilliant new photographers to the pages of TREATS!, too. On page 98 the amazing Signe Vilstrup shot “Ritual,” a Burtonesque, potent and ethereal story in the dark European woods. Stephanie Vovas spent a day high in the Hollywood Hills shooting “Diora’s Key,” (page 178), bringing her gauzy, retro gaze to full flight. Not to be outdone—by mountains, I mean—Frank W. Ockenfels 3 shot may Lindstrom (page 130) at an artist’s rustic bungalow in the rolling hills north of Los Angeles. And there are some familiar names back: David Bellemere, Tony Kelly and Stephan Wurth wielded their own special brand of magic again. Talking about magic, TREATS! spent some time in the enchanting forests of Big Sur (page 8), a place that has drawn, almost like honing pigeons, artists, healers, poets, writers, and astrologists, to its otherworldly wilderness of fog spirits, tree fairies, sea beasts and curative waters. Elsewhere, you’ll find in-depth profiles on the legendary and iconic photographer Harri Peccinotti, artist Jennifer West, Welshman-gone-Tinseltown actor Ioan Gruffudd, and the most important wo
